Ottoman Turks influenced many cultures and cuisines throughout the centuries. We also use “YUFKA” to make baklava. The word baklava, also contains Turkish and Arabic origins. Overall, It could be simple to brush away all the controversy over the origins of Baklava with a sweeping smile, or judge it as yet another demonstration of Greek or Turkish fundamental nationalism.
During the Otthoman empire there was no such thing as a “Turkish identity” so if you need to time travel before you can say “Baklava is Turkish”.
Greeks and Turks made similar desserts and it’s unclear who made them first but I reckon it’s Greek cause FILO is greek altogether
